Final Year Project

Project Title

An Analysis of Neoliberal Reforms in Bangladesh

Description

My thesis attempts to look at the structural adjustment policies, implemented by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Bangladesh and their impact on Bangladeshi society and economy. The thesis undertakes a balanced analysis of the effects of these reforms, looking at both positives and negatives in the sectors of agriculture, garments, manufacturing, and services. The thesis is an attempt to juxtapose the anthropological and the economic dimensions by studying the macro-level changes in the economy (for e.g. GDP and Trade) with the changes in the everyday lives of Bangladeshis. This two-pronged approach of the macro and the micro will help us achieve acomprehensive analysis of the Bangladeshi society under the structural adjustment period.
